About us

Going online

iT’s went online for the first time in 1996. Our original Web address was http://www.encomix.es/~its, and I remember how difficult it was explaining what the ~ symbol was and how to find it (in case you’re interested, you hold down the Alt key on the keyboard and type in the numbers 1 2 6 on the numeric keypad). It soon became apparent that we needed an easier name to use, and so its-online.com was born the following year.

It was Gavin Dudeney who persuaded me that iT’s needed a website. I had no idea how addictive the Internet could be until its-online was born. Soon we were regularly adding material and trying to find ways to make the site better and easier to use.

In March 1998 its-online received its one-millionth hit. My Internet addiction worsened over the next couple of years to the point where I came up with a plan to create six Internet sites that would offer a variety of services to teachers and students. Gavin immediately realised that I was totally mad and introduced me to Andrew Castles, who took over as Webmaster and made the dream a reality.

At its-english there are more than 400 pages of interactive exercises. At 3sixty5 you’ll find teaching activities for every day of the year. And at its-myworld your students can create their own English website, take part in online projects, and communicate with native and non-native speakers around the world. At its-teachers you'll find the online edition of iT's for Teachers magazine as well as back issues and other resources. All the sites can be accessed from www.its-online.com.
